David Walker

Dave Walker FMAAT FCCA

Fellow Member - Chartered Certified Accountant. Fellow Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians

Dave began his accountancy training with Easterbrook Eaton & Co, a firm of Chartered Accountants based in Sidmouth back in June 1997, where he commenced his studies for the Association of Accounting Technician qualification.

After a number of years, Dave moved to work in Exeter City for Francis Clark, a large independent firm of Chartered Accountants.

Dave completed the three year Association of Accounting Technicians qualification and was encouraged by his employer to commence his Chartered Certified Accountant studies. He was pleased to achieve first time exam passes in all of the exams and qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2004.

During his career he has gained a great deal of experience, advising owner managed businesses and limited companies in the South West. He has worked with firms of Solicitors, Doctors, Dentists, Surveyors, Hotels, Property Developers, Farmers, IT Consultants, to name just a few.

During 2008 Dave decided that it was the right time in his career to start his own accountancy practice and do things his own way! In accountancy you gain many technical skills, but sometimes it can feel a little too much like theory until you actually begin running your own business.

The first few years were tough, and the learning curve very steep at times, however, once the snowball got moving, with time and hard work, things really started to go well.

Running your own business teaches you so many lessons that classrooms and exams cannot. So many skilled professionals are excellent technically at their job, but do not know much about setting up, marketing and running a successful business.

Dave has also spent a number of years helping his wife to build and promote a niche website of over 90 pages. This has given him a deeper understanding of how businesses can exploit the internet to promote their business and increase profits.

Dave really enjoys reading a variety of books written by ‘tycoons’ and ‘entrepreneurs’ such as Duncan Bannatyne, Richard Branson and Alan Sugar. Many of the success stories have recurring advice that most small businesses can benefit from following. He also reads numerous books on branding and marketing.

When Dave is not busy advising clients he is a keen sportsman and enjoys playing football, badminton, squash and more recently cycling 7 miles to work. Dave is also the proud father of many children!
